City Joins The Fight In Sun Protection For Kids
Just one blistering sunburn can double a child's risk of getting melanoma later in life and with the Florida sun shining all year round it is still surprising to see how many playgrounds do not provide adequate shade for children to play under.

The new playground at Lake Eola officially opens in a week's time and features a custom designed, state of the art shade structure engineered and installed by local Orlando Company, SKYShades.

The structure is an art piece within its own right and whilst it is aesthetically pleasing it more importantly does the job of protecting the kids from the suns harmful UV rays.

The shade structure is made from heavy duty, commercial grade shade cloth and will protect the children from up to 94% of UV rays. The fabric can also be removed in the case of a hurricane warning.

SKYShades will celebrate 3 years in business this March and have proudly played an important part in helping both public and private schools provide suitable shade for their students.

Joe McKenna, executive vice president says "it is unfortunate to see the lack of shade provided at schools and child care centers but I will continue to campaign this cause in order to protect our children."
